Adult Congenital and Pediatric Cardiology

Co-chairs: Dr. Hitesh Agrawal and Dr. Kenneth Shaffer

Letter from Chair

Prior to 2011 there were approximately 1 million children under age 18 with congenital heart disease and slightly less than that survived into adulthood. The ability to diagnose, manage and in most cases surgically palliate or treat congenital heart disease has had dramatic success since the initial surgeries in the 1950s. In 2011 an important inflection occurred and now there are more adults who have survived with congenital heart disease then there are children with CHD.

Currently there are over 3 million adults in the United States who are congenital heart disease survivors. The Adult Congenital and Pediatric Cardiology section of the Texas Chapter the American College of Cardiology is tasked with leading the pediatric and adult congenital community. Goal is to provide education, support research and provide resources for all caregivers of congenital heart disease.

Every section of the Chapter is touched by congenital heart disease. If you are involved in one of our other active sections, please consider the ACPC section as a second home.
